Matt Armstrong is an author and advisor on the operating structures, authorities, and doctrine impacting informational activities supporting national and organizational strategy. From 2013 through 2017, he served as a Governor on the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, since renamed the U.S. Agency for Global Media, where he provided strategic guidance and oversight over the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Office of Cuba Broadcasting, the Middle East Broadcasting Network, and expansive Internet Freedom programs. Previous engagements include serving as the Executive Director of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy, where he reoriented the organization to its core purpose of “advocacy and oversight over U.S. government efforts that intend to understand, inform, and influence foreign publics,” an Adjunct Lecturer with Joint Special Operations University, and a member of first editorial board of the journal of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence. He’s testified twice before the U.S. House Armed Services Committee on information warfare. In October 2016, he was inducted into the Psychological Operations Regiment at Fort Bragg as an Honorary Member. The effectiveness of his work in StratCom is indicated by the fact in June this year he was one of the communicators who has been sanctioned by Russia.

Matt currently resides near Zürich, Switzerland, with his wife, two children, a cat, and dog (a rescue from a Romanian shelter).
