OVERVIEW
This 3-hour module introduces the concepts of Strategic Communications, cognitive effects, information
activities, and the role of the StratCom function. The emphasis is on introducing students to the Strategic Communications function in the context of military operations and activities, and its impact on the conception, planning, and execution of tactical actions. The course is designed to be integrated into national staff training solutions and can be adapted to support overall course objectives and scenarios.
AIM
The aim of the Junior Officer and Senior enlisted (SNCO) Strategic Communications Module is introduce students to the Strategic Communications function and contribution of cognitive effects to military operations through planned information activities. The module meets the national education and training requirements for personnel assigned to NATO posts set out in NATO ASCP-1: NATO StratCom Training Standards, Annex E Para 4a-c.
TRAINING AUDIENCE
The primary training audience for the module are Junior Officers (OF-1/2) and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (OR-6/7) undergoing initial staff training.
STRUCTURE
A 3 hour residential course which consists of interactive lectures.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
a. Understand the purpose of Strategic Communications direction and guidance and its importance and relevance to the conception, planning, and execution of tactical military actions.

a. Explain the concept and principles of NATO Strategic Communications
b. Explain the relevance of Strategic Communication direction and guidance to the conduct of
military activities and operations.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Attendance and participation in interactive lectures and applied syndicate work.

It meets the national Strategic Communications education and training commitments agreed by NATO Allies and set out in NATO ASCP-1: NATO StratCom Training Standards, Annex E Para 4a-c.
