About us

The StratCom Academy is a specialist communications education and training school delivering a mix of residential modules, tailored mobile education and training solutions (METT), and advisory support to the Defence, International Security, and Humanitarian Response sectors.  We aim to meet the education and training needs of your organisation in a way that suits you.  Our training solutions follow a modular approach, enabling you to train your personnel effectively and efficiently for the roles they undertake. 

The Academy is led by Mark Laity, a former Director of Communications at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) and Special Advisor to the NATO Secretary General, and Peter Clarke, a former Chief Plans, Training and Doctrine within SHAPE Communications Division and Chief Public Affairs and Chief Information Operations in multiple NATO and UK Headquarters.  Both played a central part in development of NATO’s Strategic Commucations (StratCom) Policy, Doctrine, and Education and Training Requirements; and the StratCom Academy modules combine an understanding of this requirement with their extensive experience of delivering effective Strategic Communications for military, wider public sector, and commercial organisations.  

Our residential courses are delivered through a straetgic partnership with the Portuguese Defence Academy (IUM), and we have an impressive stable of speakers, lecturers, mentors, and advocates drawn from the NATO, EU and wider European security field; with many having played leading roles in the development of NATO StratCom policy, doctrine, education, and training solutions (and their national equivalents). This experience covers all levels, from the political and military strategic, to the operational and tactical front lines of major military and humanitarian operations.
